Not So Volcanic caldera and the Grey Hues

One door closes and another one opens.  We started the day with gloomy news that all the airports and ports are closed due to ongoing union strike. By the time we sorted and figured out an alternative mode of transport to get to Crete, a good part of the day had passed. We went to Fira to await the move towards Crete. The Weather Gods must have felt ours emotions and revealed grey hues in place of the vibrant blues. But by God, the result was spectacular. One of the memories that will always be close to me. The unscheduled visit to Santo wines at Pyrgos was the cherry on the already over flowing exquisiteness.

Like every other person, we had a day earlier taken a half day cruise on the traditional wooden boat to Caldera Island and Hot springs. A short hike leads to top of Caldera island and some more views of the croissant island and some smoke here and there. The jump into hot spring is best avoided as one get less than 10 minutes.  But Volcano was on my bucket list. Not sure if the smoke will allow me to check it off the list. Hoping to see a live one in the future.

The alternate mode of transport that day was a fishing yatch. The adventure spirit of the tourist takes over and one assumes nothing could go wrong. But when the adventure which was supposed to begin 5.00 pm in the evening during clear skies and bright light, got pushed to middle of the night, things got jittery. Also the uncertainty along with constant moving from one port to the other followed by a long wait and the heavy showers made it seem that things could go badly wrong. But finally we did embark at around 11.30 pm  in the night across the pitch dark open choppy sea in a small yacht . The 4 hour crossing of the sea was uneventful, then another 2 hours of drive and we reached our destination on the island of Crete. Luck favored us that day. May the luck be with us always!!
